A Certain Fury Guided Me is a visual and poetic narration of my condition as body in transit. Through photography, archive and text, I weave the tensions, relations and transformations that I experiment in my displacements, which began once I left Sao Tome Island at 16 years old.
Inspired by the archipelagic thought of Martinican philosopher Édouard Glissant in his book "Poétique de la Relation", in this series I connect my emotional geographies in a single trajectory.
In the literal sense of the word, an archipelago is a group of small islands. When Glissant uses the word, he imagines the world as a network of interconnected islands, each representing a unique identity, but at the same time linked in fluidity and exchange. I use his archipelagic thought to give sense to the paradox of being isolated and being part of a whole at the same time, to legitimise the inevitability of movement and exchange.
The series is realised as photobook, with images from my archive spanning 2011 to 2024, produced mainly across Spain, Portugal, Taiwan and Sao Tome Island.
