The Dream of Waking

The Dream of Waking is a series of walking and listening exercises across Lisbon, exploring the potential of these practices for personal, political and environmental transformation.
I explore the entanglements that occur during this movement: a body moving through the urban landscape, affecting and being affected, unified with Nature through the inner and outer journey that occurs as I move through this particular space. This spatio-temporal experience is recorded through images, sound and writing.
The ongoing body of work enquires on listening’s role in cultivating care for oneself, the environment and others, and in what way it may aid in intervening within dominant systems of power.
With open bodies, we listen.
Work initiated during Affective Ecologies, an artist residency focused on the contemporary relevance of Amílcar Cabral’s thought, an initiative by Hangar and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
